Introduction
Guns 3.0 is a multi purpose database that keeps an inventory of your
guns. This program also will keep a record of your reloading information.
On line help will help you learn to use the program, help is included as often
possible. The program also includes a reload cost analyzer that compares
using all new components versus using old cases. The cost analyzer also
has a shotgun section that calculates shotshell reload costs.
Guns 3.0 will generate several printed reports, listing such things as
your gun holdings with complete information including individual and total
replacement costs. The program will also print all reload information needed.
On line is a table of common bullet abbreviations. There is also
information that is automatically inserted into a reload record that includes
maximum overall cartridge length and case trim to length.

Getting Started
The Guns main menu has three selections, - File - Options - Help -,
the File area is where you do most of the data entry and file editing. The
Options menu is where you select things that vary from one person and computer
to the next, like color or monochrome, printer port and your name and address.
Last the Help menu gives you information about the program, like version and
whether its shareware or who it's registered to. Guns has on line Help, so
from almost any work screen there is a <Help> button for quick help on that
screen.

About Guns
Using the Mouse
page 3
The first thing to, under the Options Menu is select General setup -
enter personal information as requested, now select a Printer Port, this may
be LPT1, LPT2, or a serial port. If you don't know what serial port settings
your printer requires refer to your printer manual. Whenever in doubt click
<Help>. Not all of Guns 3.0 buttons are accessible by the keyboard,
therefore a mouse (or other pointing device) is not optional.
Now your ready to enter data to the Guns 3.x data bases. This
document will help you through the data entry process.

New Records
When you click either New/Add or View/Edit from the File menu
there are six record entry or view categories, they are as follows:
handguns
Rifles
Shotguns
Reloading Eguip.
Die Sets
Other Accessories
Reloading

<Ok> <Cancel>
Each category is literally what the name implies. If you want to
enter your handguns to the data base then select New/Add - Handguns, if you
want to enter your new or existing Rifles to the data base then click New/Add
- Rifles. And so on.
The fields of the firearm data entry screen are - make, model, serial #,
caliber, barrel length, date purchased, accessories, note, and
replacement cost. Most fields need no explaining. Think about this, when
you buy a gun hopefully you get a good deal, and you wouldn't be able to
replace it for the same price. That is why there is a field for what you pay and
for what it would cost to replace the gun. Don't forget to add the cost of any
accessories you add to the gun, when entering the replacement cost. When
Guns 3.0 prints reports it only prints the replacement cost of a gun, not
your actual cost. All of the above applies to HandGuns, Rifles, and Shotguns.
After all the info is entered click the <save> button with the mouse.
page 5
In the case of Reloading Accessories, each page allows entry of five
different items, the press, scale, trimmer, and polisher. If you own more than
one of any item, you need to start a new page, and enter additional items. A
new page is automatically started when you click <File> - <New/Add> - and
make a selection from the category list box. In all categories if a new page
needs to be started when adding items Guns will automatically do so.
When entering Die Sets each page allows four dies to be entered.
When you fill a page click <save> and a new page will be started. If a page is
not filled the next add will start with the unfilled page.
The Other Accessories file works the same as Die Sets with five
entries per page.
Selecting Reloading will bring up a list box containing three gun
choices, Handgun caliber, Rifle caliber or Shotgun gauges. Selecting one
of these brings up the appropriate caliber listbox. In handgun caliberÆs there
are 29 cartridges to choose from, in rifle caliberÆs there are 91 cartridges to
choose from. When you select a cartridge the program automatically opens
a file for that cartridge and inserts the "over all cartridge length" and
"trim to case length" for the selected cartridge. There are 6 Shotgun gauges
to choose from.
There are two windows that comprise the reload data entry screen
a main window, and a extended data window. There are a total of 24 fields
for reload information not all fields need be filled, however the program will
not save a record if no lot number is entered. You can assign any kind of lot
number you want, both letters and numbers are allowed. Only from the
extended data can you save a record and only the buttons of the active
window will work. An active window always is the one with a boarder
shadow on the right and bottom of the window boarder. To go back to the
main window from the extended click <^Back^>.
No matter what record you work with BE SURE TO CLICK
<Save> before you click <Exit> or your record will not be saved.
page 6
Viewing and editing
The view/edit windows are almost the same as the new/add window
was. A few more buttons are available, they enable you to page through
your records one by one for ease of viewing, print a single record, or delete
a record as required. The <next> and <Previous> buttons move you up one
record and down one record respectively. <Print> and <Delete> do just what
they say. If you click <Delete> you will be asked if your sure before deleting
the record occurs.
Editing is quite easy, simply click the field you need to change with the
mouse to select it. All the common edit keys may be used - arrow keys,
insert, delete, home, end and backspace are allowed. When done making
changes, to make them permanent you must click <Save Changes> if you
don't changes aren't written to the record.
When viewing reloads a button called <Range Notes> is available,
this takes you to a screen that allows you to make notes about how a
particular load performs at the range or hunt.
page 7
Report Printing
Guns prints reports for any of the catagories or it will print all of
your records by selecting <Print All> as records are being printed the
replacement cost is being added up for each catagory. When "printing all"
the last page of the report is a total replacement cost summary, this cost
summary is not printed when just printing a single catagory. A single catagory
report does have a catagory replacement cost total.
Using the cost calculator
When choosing <Load Cost Calculator> from the main menu, you
will be asked to choose either <Pistol or Rifle> or <Shotgun> loads.
The <Pistol or Rifle> cost calculator will ask for the following
information - case cost, bullet cost, primer cost, and for each of these how
many for that price. You will also need the cost per pound of powder and
charge weight in grains. When entering information you need not enter a cost
in every case but you must enter a quantity or a "divide by zero" error will
result.
The <Shotgun> cost calculator is completely different, the information
that you need can be selected from a listbox in the case of shot weight, and
the shot type is selected with a check box - [ x ] Lead or [ ] Steel .
After selecting shot type, the fields - pounds per price - primers per price -
and - wads per price are automatically entered. All you need to enter is the
cost of shot, primers, wads, powder per pound and charge weight in grains.
Both calculator windows have the same bottom bar buttons to choose
from, <Calculate> <View Loads> <Help> and <Exit> . Clicking <Calculate>
displays the results in cost per round, cost per box of 20, 50 or in the case
of shot shells 25. <View Loads> brings you to the reload listbox.
There are 3 Icons included with this program for those who wish to run
Guns from windows. You must install the Icon of choice.
